By-Pass Opened To Traffic
The new Rutene Road extension, along with the rest of Rutene Road and Ormond Road (from the William Petty Bridge to the western City boundary) now forms a by-pass which allows traffic from north and south to pass through Gisborne without being held up by, and congesting, traffic in the downtown area. By-pass traffic has the right-of-way all the way through. All roads coming into the by-pass either give way or stop. If all drivers remember this then there should be no traffic problems or accidents at all. This applies particularly to De Lautour Road, which now has the same situation as the Harris Street-Rutene Road intersection.
