The News for 100 Years
The Gisborne Herald newspaper celebrated the bringing of news in the written word to the people of Gisborne for 100 years with a staff buffet dinner and social at Ulverstone, To mark the occasion the company also gave $3000, over the next three years, to the library for use in buying books for the children's section. The celebrations included the cutting of a centennial cake.

During the evening, senior staff member Mr Bob Wilson presented Mr Geoff Muir with a clock from the staff, to hang in the board room, commemorating the occasion.
