Behind These Windows

At the Back of the Cottage

Behind This Barbeque

This facade of Thomson's Saddlery conceals the faces of those who ply their trade, in earnest, making leather goods and saddles. Every now and then they come up for air and survey the passing parade in Peel Street, particularly if the parade contains any good looking birds. However, a kindly wizard waved a hand and lo! the appropriate name plaques found their rightful place above each window. Then the passing parade knew exactly who they were passing in front of! And the cards read, from left, John, semi-available; Geoff, calling all girls; L o Joe; Roger the Dodger; and Mark is back.

This picture of the back of the Museum Cottage shows how well established the garden and paths have now become. The Gisborne Garden Club has been responsible for the garden and grounds of the cottage all along, which now looks particularly attractive all round.

Around this barbeque are the six Gisborne Scouts who are leaving for the Jamboree in Australia at the end of the year. They got together to meet each other before taking off for the jamboree in Adelaide on December 26. After the 10-day jamboree they will spend a further 2 ½ weeks on a Scouting tour that will also take in Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Cloncurry, Mt Isa, Brisbane and Sydney. The Scouts are, from left, David Markie (Takitimu), Walter Escott, Keith Fairbank and Grant Williams (Wai-te-ata), Brett Harries (Mangapapa) and Mark Stewart (Wai-te-ata).
