National Show

The Poverty Bay Horticultural Society was host to this year's National Daffodil Show, which was held in the Y.M.C.A. Stadium. The standard was very high, with entries coming from all over the country.

Mr Tombleson's winning bloom "Fontmell" — a 1B lemon trumpet

Mr R. C. A. (Jack) Tombleson won the cup for the Champion Bloom in the show and he is seen receiving the cup from Mayor Harry Barker, who presented the prizes.

Mrs Nancy Peddle won premier bloom in the Amateur section with "Dresden," a 3B small red cup.

Pictured with the National Daffodil Society Trophy (which is now worth about $500) are the winners, Messrs Philip Phillips (left) and Graham Phillips. They are shown with Mr Barker and Mrs A. Stevens (Horticultural Society president). This trophy is for three blooms of eighteen varieties.
