"A stinking mudhole that has been an eyesore and a reproach to the city ever since I can remember, from boyhood days", was how Mr E. W. Armstrong, who has returned to Gisborne after practising as an architect in London for many years, described Waikanae Creek in a recent talk to the Jaycees.
