This large bunch of sweet Ladies' Fingers bananas was grown by Mr B. A. Story, 9 Parker Street (Above). The bananas, being held by Mr Doug Bull, were ripened in Gisborne Markets' banana room. The banana room is temperature and humidity controlled and imported bananas are ripened here as required. The bananas grown by Mr Story, who, by the way, spent 12 years in Queensland (real banana country), would not ripen in Gisborne, due to the summer being just not long enough.

This king-size cauliflower was grown by Mrs G. Goodley, 1 Cambridge Terrace. The cauliflower measured 13 inches across and must have grown to that size just for the heck of it, as no special treatment was given to this or any other of the plants in the row.

This charming study of her grand-daughter, Katherine Wakeling, feeding the chickens, was sent in by Mrs F. M. Wakeling, 606 Aberdeen Road. Katherine is the daughter of Mrs Wakeling's son Gordon, and his wife, who are now living on Rangiatea Station, Taupo West.

Herman was the name judged most suitable for Radio Gisborne's pet cockatiel. Here, Herman surveys the call signs of his home from the safety of his cage.
