Visiting Dredge

The Timaru dredge, 'W. H. Orbell,' was an unexpected visitor to Gisborne, recently. Due to a very heavy swell the dredge, on its way from Wellington to Mt Maunganui, had to put into Gisborne. The dredge's "well," in front of the ship, prevents it moving through anything but a fairly calm sea, and heavy seas off East Cape forced it to return to Gisborne. The 'W. H. Orbell,' which does charter dredging and is the most modern bucket dredge in New Zealand, is brought into anchorage by the Gisborne Harbour Board tug 'Hikurangi.'
