Legend has it that during the early days of the Maori, when tribal factions were warring with each other, this bluff, a mile or so on the Tauwhareparae Road some six miles from Tolaga Bay, was used to dispose of the captured enemy. A quick toss from the top was probably the method used for disposal. However, nightmares needn't come into it as it may only be a myth after all.
