Bloodhounds Don't Bite — Really

It's all a myth. They have the best sense of smell of any dog and make the best trackers, but that's all. Bloodhounds just don't have it in them to be savage.

Bloodhounds as such were first bred in 712 A.D. and were a cross between the St Hubert and Talbot hounds. The bloodhounds were used by lords to track down game on the estate but it was always left to the lord to take the game. Over the years all sorts of myths have grown around the bloodhound and if it wasn't for their somewhat rare breeding they'd make better pets than many of the other big dogs.

These two are Sir Cedric and Lady Emma, the first registered pair of bloodhounds in New Zealand. They belong to Mr Dennis Anderson and his wife Lorna of Auckland and they had them on show at the recent P.B. Kennel Club and A. & P. autumn dog show. They were actually imported from Australia at 11 weeks. The dogs had their first birthday on the day of the show.
