Speaking Mechanically
This $25,000 Poclain high pressure hydraulic excavator was imported by Porter Engineering for delivery to Mr Tim McCoy of Whakatane for work in the Gisborne area. The outstanding features of the French machine are its extreme mobility (it is a rubber-tyred machine as opposed to the conventional track type) and its high-pressure hydraulic system which operates at 4,500 p.s. Work is progressing favourably on the J. Wattie Canneries maize starch factory in Lowe Street. The last of the six steepers is shown here being put into position by one of Monk Bros. cranes. In the right foreground the foundation for the elevator section is taking shape.
