Four of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Skyhawks were seen in a brief run over the city on June 11. The new two-seater jet missile fighters which flew over Gisborne would be worth about $7,000,000, and they are only part of a group of 14 of which the Air Force has taken delivery. The Skyhawks replace the Canberras.

This giant shark, estimated to weigh about 1500Ibs, was landed in a net on board the "Golden Grain" off East Cape. After taking refuge in the cabin for 12 hours while the monster threshed about all over the deck until it had breathed its last, Mike Butler and Gerry Wallace were able to emerge and get on with the job in hand. This picture was taken after they had arrived back in Gisborne.
