From Mr Denys Williams, 13 Lysnar Street, Wainui Beach, come these two views of the famed Pink and White Terraces. They were The tourist attraction of last century before the violent eruption of Mount Tarawera on June 10,1886, which destroyed all traces of the beautiful formations.

Mr Doug Dyer, Mill Road, we have this late afternoon shot taken from Kaiti Hill during the big flood of 1948. The airport was flooded, Victoria township was evacuated in case, and the Peel Street and Grey Street bridges were destroyed. This picture was taken at the height of the flood when the tide was low. Imagine how much worse it would have been if there had been a full tide!
