Mrs Esme Tombleson, M.P. for Gisborne, has left for a six-week tour of the U.S.A. While in the States Mrs Tombleson will make studies of erosion and its effect on river systems, control of wastes and the problems of sediment and pollution control. She will also study American methods for training physically handicapped people to make a useful place for themselves in society. Mrs Tombleson also hopes to include various facets of the fishing industry while on her fact-finding tour. Mrs Tombleson is the first New Zealand female politician to be awarded an international visitor's leadership grant (which enables her to make this tour) and will be the guest of the U.S. Government.
