Loan Repaid

With the announcement recently that the loan for the Gisborne tramway system had finally been paid off came these two pictures from Mrs A. H. Willams, 7 King Street. The system was started in 1913 and discontinued in 1929. Due to the odd set-up of raising loam in the early part of this century, and the unsatisfactory method of loan repayments;then, it has taken all this time to clear the debt. Fortunately this kind of thing would not happen today.

The trams started their run from the old Post Office site (now Endeavour Park). The decorated vehicles are shown on their first-day run from there.
