Sportsman of the Year

The eight nominees for the first Sportsman of the Year award were all deserving of the title. The recipient of the trophy, Barry McLean, was announced when Murray Halberg opened a sealed envelope at the Crippled Children Society's Sportsmen's Dinner. Inside was the name of the winner. The selection was no easy task for the panel of five judges.
