Up She Rises

Unusual conditions out in the bay caused a heavy swell which forced its way into the inner harbour basin on the night of May 8. Much surface damage was done around the basin.

Planking on Fishermen's Wharf was torn loose and water covered the decking of the wharf.

The swell was so strong that it caused the harbour dredge, tied up at No.1 wharf, to break the parapet.

Some of the vessels sheltering on the high waters which continued over the next day.
