The Weti-Tamihana Te-Ao Memorial Cycle Road Race is put off again this season on account of the change of date. It would clash with the other races to be held at the same time. The race may be held in Gisborne next year. The picture shows riders preparing to depart from Tolaga Bay for Tokomaru Bay in 1966.

The first bridge to span the Uawa River at Tolaga Bay is shown after it was broken up by the biggest flood ever known in Tolaga Bay. This happened in 1916. The bridge was a steel and wooden structure and residents of Hauiti were rowed across the river to the township until a punt was available for service until a new bridge was built. Hori was still at school at that time and crossed the river many times during that period.
