From Mr A. C. de Lautour, 90 Iranui Road, comes this photo, which must be one of the earliest ever taken of Gisborne. Shot in 1868, it would be taken from a point near where Lowe Street now meets Gladstone Road, and looks east. As Mr de Lautour says "It's not only the principal street, but the whole place!"

From Miss E. Failie of Tyndall Road we have this picture taken in the days when all the ships and boats used to tie up at the old wharf. This was situated along Reads Quay, below where the Gladstone Road bridge is now, and was the centre of all trading activity.
