Changing Face

The extensions to the Y.M.C.A. building will provide additional space of some 9,000 square feet in two storeys and will enable activities to be undertaken on a larger scale. The picture above shows an artist's impression of the extension which was designed by Stephenson and Turner. The new building will front Childers Road.

The ground floor of the new structure will contain foyer and offices, and meeting, recreation and changing rooms. Also on this floor will be the kitchen, canteen and lounge cafeteria.

The first floor will contain a gymnasium and storerooms.

The face of the Esplanade between Wainui and Crawford Roads is certainly changing with the erection of these two new buildings. Kaiti Fisheries will move from their present premises to their new factory (above) when building finishes shortly.

J. J. Niven and Company's new plant (below) is well under construction. Situated right next to their present premises, the building has steel framework and beams with the walls being constructed of concrete blocks.
