Charity Relay

A relay race over 624 miles in six days and a collection of more than $550 for the St. John Ambulance fund was the effort made by teams from Lytton and the Boys' High schools.

The course, from Gisborne to Hamilton and back around the coast, was taken by the Boys High and the reverse by Lytton who won the event by about 15 minutes.

The winning Lytton team is John Phin, Ron Ovenden, Michael Irving, Richard Stubbings, Ross Fraser, Roger Simpson, Geoff Hair, David Langford, Francis Guard, Murray Candy and Neil Coppin.

Tossing the coin for the order of the relay is Mr Phil Rundle, vice-president of St. John.

The Boys' High team is Winton Haronga, Ian Solomon, Tony Gibson, Alan Hill, Clinton Rice Brian Anderson, Duncan Shaw, Roger French, Larry Robinson and Kevin White.
