Flowing Freely

The recent appeal for blood by the Auckland Blood Transfusion Unit resulted in more than 350 people donating blood to the service. This excellent number of donors was the direct result of an effort by the Gisborne Jaycees who spent some considerable time canvassing the Gisborne area.

The unit spent two days in Gisborne. Each evening the donated blood was flown to Auckland but during the day was held in cold storage in the unit's bus which contains full refrigerator facilities. The bus also contains all the equipment necessary for a blood donor collection, which is considerable.

Donors spent ten minutes giving blood and then a further ten minutes resting after the donation. The collection took place in the R.S.A. Hall.
