The Waikirikiri School (above) was officially opened recently. It is at present running a queen carnival and the two candidates are the Red House princess, Piki Hema, and the Blue House princess, Hiria Ahurirl. The two girls (above left and below left respectively) are pictured as they appeared in two pencil drawings made by staff member Mrs Carol Larmer.

Four members of the Kaiti school committee retired last year with 40 years' service between them. They were honoured for their services at a small function recently when they were also presented with long service certificates from the Hawkes Bay Education Board. The men, from left, are Bill Mallon (8 years), Bill Williams (12 years), David Court (8 years) and Phil Webby (12 years).
