Around The Schools

Our school staff photo this month is that of the staff of the Waikirikiri school which was officially opened on April 17. The school, which how has four rooms, will eventually be extended until the total number of rooms planned for is reached and this number is twelve.

Those on the staff at present are, from left, in front: Mrs Mary Markie (dental nurse), Mr Fred Williams (head teacher), Mrs Margaret Williams, and, at back, Mrs Carol Larmer, Judy Gardner and Margaret Thomas.

A recent visitor to the city was Lt/Col Davies of the U.S.A. Civil Air Patrol. This organisation is the equivalent of the New Zealand Air Training Corps and the Lt/Col was on a tour of inspection of New Zealand units. At the Boys' High School he made an inspection of the corps and also gave a short talk to the boys about American units, and the differences he found between the two countries.
