One of the lucky winners of Four Square's recent Bride of the Month for February was Diane Omer, (nee Croskery) who, with her husband Michael, goes to live in Ohura. Pictured presenting Diane with her box of groceries is Ron Haplin of Matthews Store, Elgin.

One of the largest seed bearing fruits known is the cone of the Bunya Bunya tree, a 75 to 80 foot member of the Norfolk Pine family. Known botanically as the Araucaria Bidwilli, a fine specimen of the tree Can be seen in the Botanical Gardens near the weka pen. Being heavier than the usual cone it broke off the tree and is shown here by Tom Watson, superintendent of Parks and Reserves.

Four Square's Stake Your Claim competition is drawing wide attention, particularly if you are lucky enough to be like Mrs Alice Cambie of 474 Childers Road and win a new fridge in the competition. Brian Johnstone, Gisborne Four Square manager, presents Mrs Cambie with her 10 cubic foot Kelvinator while at right is Bruce Beets at whose store the presentation took place.

Meet Molly, a 16-year-old crossbred fowl who throughout the laying season obliges with a double yolked egg weighing 4½ozs every other day, and a normal sized egg on the in-between days. Molly belongs to the Te Aho family, 230 Ormond Road.

Camera Club. Members were visited recently by Laurie and Alice Hill from Rochester, U S.A., who gave two most interesting colour slide lectures at a special meeting. Laurie (who is a mechanical engineer with Kodak) and Alice stayed with Don and Edna Gunn, Wainui Road, and the picture taken at the Cook Memorial in the course of a sight-seeing trip around town shows Laurie and Alice Hill, Don and Edna Gunn and Jim Wilson on the lawn.

Swimmers. Among the medal winners who did exceptionally well at the New Zealand Swimming Champs at New Plymouth were Yvonne Goodall, Alice Taiapa, Maxinne Lissetts and Margaret McKee (Photo News Sportsman of the Month for February). Margaret took a gold medal for the junior girls' 440 freestyle and silver medals in the 220 and 110 yards freestyle, while Yvonne took a bronze in the 440 freestyle. The four girls also took a bronze in the relay which Alice had the honour of accepting.

Gisborne Ladies' Surf Life Saving Club. Four members of the club who took part in the New Zealand Championships at Wellington recently were Chrys Sutton and Elizabeth Morse (at back), and Alison Thodey and Noreen Read. Two girls who have just gained their Life Saving Certificates and now give the club a six man team are Lorraine Allen (above) and Diane Stuart.

Girls' Life Brigade. Completing three flower arrangements each, in the course of the Pioneer Venture, are Dawn Andrew, Betty Frame, Ann Bullen, Kathleen Parkin and Jeanette Sinton. The Pioneer Venture, a project which takes from three to four years to complete, and is modelled along the lines of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, includes service of 25 hours each to church, home and community.
