Changing Face
The initial stages of the Kaiti Supermarket and shopping centre are now apparent. Surrounded by an ample parking area, the completed development will cost £100,000, and will be ready for business by Christmas.
The former Grundies Furniture factory, on the Grey Street Kahutia Street corner, is being extensively renovated to house the professional rooms of James and Bartlett.
All that remains of the former Sheepfarmers Woolstore and Harbour Board offices in lower Reads Quay is a pile of broken bricks and rubble. They were demolished to make way for Watties new fish processing factory.
Some of the new state houses in the Sherriff sub-division are now occupied, and others in the area are nearing completion.
