Competitions Festival

With a record number of more than 2000 entries, the Gisborne Competitions Society's forty-seventh annual festival of talent was, as usual, a great success.

This year the competitions ran for six days in four city halls, and climaxed with two demonstration concerts in the War Memorial hall on the final day.

The Saturday night concert opened spectacularly with a massed Highland fling.

Winner of the character sketch in costume, Barbara McLeod, portrayed Kate Hardcastle from "She Stoops to Conquer".

Patricia Hall performs the "Dance of Galanta" which won her the national dance section.

Carrynne Compton won the 12 and under 15 years competitions scholarship as well as tap and Greek dance trophies.
