Thrilling Boxing

A large audience of fight-fans was treated to a display of boxing at its best in the Army Hall on a recent Saturday night when Gisborne's Peter Lister, the Australasian lightweight champion, met and defeated N.Z. Olympic Games representative, Paddy Donavan, of Hawkes Bay.

A catchweight bout of three rounds, the fight was one of the best seen in the city for many years, with both fighters exchanging blows at a tremendous rate from the first bell to the last.

Lister was in devastating form, and although he never really gained complete supremacy over his experienced and rugged opponent, he was leading in points when the final bell sounded.

Supporting the main bout were junior boxers, and Gisborne's middleweight Roy Skuse, who convincingly took the decision over Pete puruto, of Auckland.
