Animal Oddities

One such case was this litter of eight babies, and one half-grown rabbit which were unearthed on Mr Pat Hill's property, at Patutahi. Pictured with them is Rabbit Board inspector Mr C. T. Denton, who later had to have the cute little fellows destroyed.

Once a common sight in the district, rabbits are now something of a rarity, thanks to the efforts of the East Coast Rabbit Board. However, the occasional rabbits still turn up every now and again.

Pick of the freak lambs born this season was this Siamese twins model, which was born on Nicks Head Station last month. Found by Chris Hawley, it had two heads and two bodies joined together to half-way down its back. It appeared to have only one stomach, and had to be destroyed.
