Gisborne's set of traffic lights at the Gladstone Road-Peel Street intersection received a further battering last month when a right-turning motorist mounted the concrete centre island and hit the light standard squarely amidships. Damage to the lights was slight.
When Mrs A. Rocard, of 6 Kowhai Street, returned to her home on a sunny Saturday last month, she found a strange visitor on her front lawn -- a rapidly melting snowman......presumably the efforts of friends who had been for a visit to the Wharerata snowfields.
Although the snowfall was an enjoyable novelty for many Gisborne residents, the severe weather resulted in heavy lambing losses for many farmers, and in damage to power lines and communications. P and T staff are pictured renewing a fallen telephone pole near Muriwai.
