Dominion Monarch Bell Unveiled

The bell of the Dominion Monarch, the former pride of the Shaw Savill line, which has now been sold to the shipbreakers, was formally unveiled at a ceremony at the Riverdale School, upper Stout Street.

The bell was presented to the school after a pupil, Wendy Paulson, wrote to the shipping company in 1961, requesting it for the school on behalf of her fellow pupils. Now, more than two years later, Wendy's wish has become a reality, and she was honoured at the ceremony by ringing the bell for the first time in its new home.
