Big Game Fishing From Gisborne

Gisborne fishermen had an opportunity to exploit a new avenue of their sport when a Tauranga big game fishing boat, the Sou' East, arrived in port last month.

Owned and skippered by Mr Fred Wilkins, the vessel will remain here until mid-January, when it will return to its home port.

Heavily booked for private charters, the Sou' East has been working the Ariel Reef area, approximately 10 miles off the Tatapouri headland, where local fishermen have sighted tuna, swordfish, and sharks quite frequently during the summer months.
