New Car Testing Station

Headlight test, is quickly and accurately made by Mr Smith, after which car moves on to braking test.

Mr Smith is shown handing Mr Fyson his check list at the completion of the test. Final call is made at office window, where Mr D. Waugh issues warrant. If car is found to have faults, owner must take it away, presumably to garage, for adjustments, and return for further inspection.

New station will standardise tests, and use of modern equipment will assure motorists that when warrants are issued, their cars are really fit for the road.

Here Mr Fyson drives his car on to steel platform and applies brakes. Effectiveness of brake on each wheel is registered automatically by machine.

Gisborne's new car testing station swung into action last month, and quickly found favour with local motorists in search of warrants of fitness. Our camera started shooting as Mr G. W. Fyson, a Gisborne motorist, arrived to get his car tested, and he agreed to act as demonstrator to show just how simple and efficient the new system is.

(1) Mr Fyson is greeted at the entrance by Mr Tom Kane, one of the attendants.

(2) First check is on the car's front - wheel assembly, followed.

(3) By a chassis inspection made from the pit.

(4) Car then moves on to the headlight test. Here Mr A. Smith, who is in charge of the station, takes readings with modern photo-electric equipment.
