The scene in Gladstone Road at Peel Street during the noon rush. Density of traffic is sometimes so great that officers on point duty in Feel Street at Gladstone Road and Palmerston Road have to be right on the job to avoid backing up of vehicles across intersections. Cyclists swell the volume of traffic, which is further complicated by occasional misdemeanours of pedestrians on authorised crossings. Pedestrian in picture, in front of Traffic Officer Boyle, is rightly waiting on central island of crossing for an opportunity to continue.

The new Elgin Primary School, off Muir Street in Gisborne's newest suburb, is now nearing completion, and should be ready for occupation during the third term. Elgin suburb, in Gisborne's south-west district, is now well-housed and served by its own shops. Contractors for now school are Messrs File & Dearness.
