Most of the year, the surf at Tahunanui Beach is almost non-existent and surf-boarders have a pretty lean time But the winds that have plagued Nelson, almost since September, have provided surfing enthusiasts with the best conditions they have experienced for a long time. The surf is still a long way short of what can be expected at Gisborne or other surfing resorts, but at least it has provided the surfers with some sport.
Employees of the City Council's electricity department have completed a couple of big jobs recently, and in so doing the surroundings have been made much more attractive. Underground wiring in Rutherford Street has eliminated the clutter of overhead wiring and here, at left, the erection of this huge lighting mast in the centre of the Haven Road roundabout will help light this busy intersection and beautify it at the same time.
This light truck came to rest in the ditch running alongside St. Vincent Street after it had rolled down an inline out of Kirby's workshop yard, recently. Nobody hurt and little damage to the truck.
