Nelson's "Mrs N.Z."

Congratulations Mrs Merril Brown! You did, you certainly did, do it. "Mrs New Zealand", no less, and against some extremely tough opposition from all over New Zealand. Beginning as an entrant in the Stoke section of the "Mrs Nelson" contest, Merril won the Stoke sash, then the section sash, then the Nelson sash and finally the "Mrs New Zealand" crown. The wife of a Bank of New Zealand accountant, and mother of three children, Merril was persuaded to enter the contest by a neighbour. As well as having the honour of being New Zealand's "First Housewife", Merril also won a trip to Hong Kong. She and her husband Alan plan to take the trip about April next year.
