Buiid Your Own Plane

All his life Ron Muncaster has been making models-mostly of aircraft. But a couple of years ago he decided it was time he had a go at the real thing. And so, with a letter to the Civil Aviation Department, he commenced a project that has kept him very busy for the last two years. The aircraft he decided to build, the French Turbulent, is powered by a Volkswagen car engine and has a length of nearly 17ft and a wing span of 21ft 7ins. It's a one-seater and before Ron finishes it he's going to have to learn to fly. As can be seen from the picture at left, work on the aircraft has reached the advanced stage. Civil Aviation Department Inspectors have examined and passed each section of the aircraft as it has been completed Ron has hopes of keeping the finished cost to within $1000.
