Polytechnic's New Workshops

New workshops for engineering, mechanical engineering, and arc and gas welding classes, and a complex of lecture rooms, are contained in the new Nelson Polytechnic workshop block opened last month. The new building provides the most up-to-date facilities for those attending classes in these subjects. Undoubtedly the facilities and the bright, airy conditions in the workshops are the envy of all who are still boxed up in the old wooden buildings opposite. It is to be hoped that new quarters for all these students and adults taking night classes will be found in the not-too-distant future.

"Absolutely perfect" was the description given the new arc and gas welding shop, by its head, Mr W. Broadhurst. It would be impossible to improve upon, he said. Working under his direction here are Russell Pinker (a second year apprentice) and Gary Price (third year). Each stand is equipped with its own torch and heads and gauges and gas is supplied from a bulk store. The arc welding apparatus is contained in another section of the shop, each welder in a separate cubicle.
