The Deaf Child

A seminar for the parents of deaf pre-school children was held in Nelson earlier this month. Below, Miss Elizabeth Husband, adviser on deaf children in the Wellington area of the Department of Education, shows how a deaf child should be read to. In this case Donald Philp is getting a cuddle from mum, Nova, at the same time. At right, Mrs Rai Rogers and son Mark demonstrate language development through both of them participating in a routine job.
