Children in the Forest

The quiet of the Coronation Forest atop Golden Downs was shattered by the joyful cries and chatter of hundreds of children earlier this month as they went about their pleasurable task of afforestation. This visitation, was, of course, made to continue the annual Arbor week planting that began in 1954. There were trees to plant and trees to prune.

Getting into the pruning were Stephen Hunt and Geoffrey Dentice (Waimea Intermediate).

Graham Gardiner certainly has the look of a woodsman.

In a few years' time, the three that Marilyn Smith (St. Joseph's) is planting will be much bigger than she is.

Hurrah, it's lunch time, so back to camp.

Yummeeee, I'm hungry, quoth Nancy Crowe, Mary Baigent, Wendy Ricketts and Annette Bradley.

This looks like a case of "I saw it first" for Carol Adcock, Christine Bailey, Gillian Thompson and Sue Jones.
