Heated pool for training

In years gone past Nelson's swimmers have had to bring their training to a halt as soon as the weather and the water at the Municipal Pool got too cold. Through the good offices of the Auckland Point School authorities and the enthusiasm of Mr Ray McConchie, supervisor of the Municipal Pool and senior instructor of the Nelson Swimming Club, this situation will not apply this year. Ray has erected a framework over the Auckland Point School pool and enclosed the whole area so that the icy winds of winter will not chill the swimmers To warm the water, a boiler has been installed in a separate shed. Our congratulations to Mr McConnhie for the idea and the many long hours of work he has put into this project. The pic above shows the building with its polythene skin nearing completion. At right. Mr McConchie displays the heating unit and below, the enclosed pool gets a fresh coat of paint.
