New Fisheries Factory

In 1940 two men began operating a fish re-selling business from a small shed on Wakefield Quay. From this tiny start had grown the mammoth business of Nelson Fisheries Ltd which has factories in Auckland, Wellington, Greymouth and Picton, as well as the new $250,000 factory opened in Nelson last month. The factory, of 20,000 sq. ft., is slightly smaller than the Auckland factory opened last December. Elsewhere in this issue we have covered the processing of fish in the new plant, so that on this page we devote our attentions exclusively to the official opening by the Minister of Marine (Mr Scott).
