Huge Log Shipment

The biggest single shipment of logs ever to leave Nelson was taken by the Kenei Maru, a Japanese vessel designed for the logging trade, to Japan. The vessel was here more than a week and loaded 180,000 cubic feet of logs for Baigent and Sons. At the same time as the Kenei Maru was loading, the Daisei, another Japanese boat, took aboard another 150,000 cu. ft. of logs. A considerable portion of the cargo was stowed on deck on both ships.
