Jungle Training for School Cadets

Senior boys of Nelson College spent three days and a half on jungle exercises in the Matakitaki Valley as part of their barracks week cadet training. Although the area chosen was adjacent to the college's Mataki Lodge, the boys did not use the lodge, but the more realistic jungle tent and jungle rations.

Martin Huklesbury finds a minute to clean his rifle (below) while Gary Beattie displays his equipment (below right). During a night exercise it would appear that Warren ambushed these two at below left.
