Poneke Riders Dominate Road Race

Poneke Club riders dominated the senior 50-mile Wellington Centre championship at Appleby last month, filling the first five places in record time. The only "outsider" who appeared to have any chance of taking a major placing, Dave Comparini, crashed with less than four miles to the finish, and although he remounted he was unable to make up the two minutes lost and came in sixth. In the 25-mile junior race, a young Motueka rider, R. Anderson, seized an opportunity presented to him with only a quarter of a mile to go, and sprinted home ahead of a very surprised bunch.
