Old Port Landmark Disappears

This old building on Wakefield Quay which has housed pilots of the Nelson Harbour Board for something like 100 years, has been demolished. The old pilot station was condemned by the board last year. Much of the old building is in first class order, but the flooring and piling had deteriorated to the stage where repairs were considered uneconomic. The new station is located close to the main administration building on McGlashen Quay. As if to mark their displeasure of the demolition, high seas and winds smashed part of the wooden ramp of the station and of the rowing club next door, last month.
