Historic Homes No.5 "Melrose"

×

One of the biggest and most beautiful of Nelson's historic homes is "Melrose", operated now by the Women's Division of Federated Farmers as a holiday home for members. The home was built by Mr Charles Watts last century (the exact date is difficult to ascertain) as his residence. Upon his death it was bought by Mr Percy Adams and remained in the Adams family until it was held in trust for the W.D.F.F. as long as they wished to use it as a rest and holiday home. A large area of the once spacious grounds have since been sold, but the fine old wooden building still sits in a setting of large lawns, shrubs and trees. It also provides many species of native birds, pigeons, bell birds, tuis and others, with a home.
