A Hated Symbol Flaunted * Vandals at Work

A little more than a few weeks after Anzac Day we were both shocked and sickened to see a swastika, that hated symbol of Nazi Germany, being flaunted on what appeared to be a German helmet worn by a youth astride his motor-cycle in the very heart of Nelson.

This is not the first time the swastika has been paraded in Nelson. Not so long ago another youth, with this symbol on an arm band, paraded the streets on a motorcycle before he took some official advice to desist Whan can be done about repetitions of this stupid and offensive behaviour? Evidently little, judging by a Magistrate's Court decision in the North Island recently. More's the Pity.

Transport Department parking officer, Lynette Russ, displays a match removed from one of roost parking meters one Monday morning. Evidently vandals are active in the weekends "spiking" the meters in this way.
