Nelson'S Changing Face

It's quite a time since we had a good look at the building activity that's being going on in and around the city. We did so recently and were quite amazed at the new buildings that have sprung, or are springing, up. Many of these are located on reclamation.

The new factory for Nelson Fisheries and a new wharf are being built close to the factory of New Zealand Sea Products on the reclamation

×

The new engineering workshops of Nalder and Biddle Ltd, also on the reclamation.

Trafalgar Street has been given a new look with the new building for Keith Walker's and the new four-storey building being erected alongside for Valet Service Ltd, both of which firms had their buildings destroyed by an arsonist (The Valet building will have about 16,500 sq. ft. of floor space, with shops on the Trafalgar Street frontage and off the right-of-way to the rear, offices on the second storey and flats on the top two; Keith walkers have nearly 4400 sq. ft. of floor space in the ground floor and mazzanine floor).
