Fighter Squadron Holds Reunion

In 1942, shortly after the Battle of Britain had been fought and won, a new fighter squadron was formed. The squadron, based at Tangmere, was the 486 Squadron, a Royal New Zealand Air Force unit attached to the R.A.F. From 1942 until the end of the war, the squadron flew Hurricanes, Typhoons and Tempests against Germany, with distinction. Twenty-five years later, in the Turf Hotel, Stoke, survivors of the squadron gathered to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its formation.
