The only problem with the autumn is the work involved in gathering the leaves. In more inaccessible areas the City Council uses a portable blower machine to stockpile leaves and then a giant-size motorised vacuum cleaner to gather them.

From Mrs N. Berryman, Murchison, comes this pic of Moira and Bill Dyas and their four-year-old son, Robbie, of Wellington, at the Karamea end of the Heaphy Track, after completing their tramp from Collingwood. Robbie is thought to be the youngest person to have accomplished this feat.

Visitors to the hospital using the lower car park are now permitted to use this tunnel connecting the boiler house and the hospital. The tunnel saves a walk across the busy road and is warm and dry (with a lift at the end of it).
